Weir Road
January - September 2010The site is in a unique location on Weir Road. It is an end of terrace, Edwardian house situated on the west side of Weir Road, flanked on the east side by a driveway leading to a mid block property, further east Rodbourne Road, a quiet street, and towards the west Cavendish Road, a busier street of a more local character.
Weir road is a street of a very diverse character of buildings, where a variety of types of buildings can be seen, such as period dwellings from the Edwardian era to the modern 20th century housing estate in a parkland setting, not to mention none dwelling building typologies which include: garage sheds, industrial estates, catering distribution & stograge buildings, warehouse wholesale, self storage, car dealers and a couple of religious buildings at either end of the road.
The surrounding area is predominantly residential in character and the current proposal does not seek to change this. It is hoped that by extending the existing dwelling with a carefully considered loft extension, of an appropriate scale and with an architectural language which reflects its use, will contribute to enhance, passive surveillance, as well as increasing the density thus adding to the quality and character of the local area.
