Private House • La Calera, Bogota, Colombia • Project 2010
This site is situated in the suburban district of La Calera in Bogotá, Colombia, and is bounded by the Hato gorge to the south, an access road to the north, and pockets of undeveloped land to the east and west. The area has historically been underdeveloped due to the emergence of guerrilla activity and drug trafficking in the 1970s and 1980s. However, it has since become an attractive location for those seeking a peaceful suburban lifestyle close to the amenities of the city. The proposed development aims to create a single-family environment that is sympathetic to the rural character of the area and the existing topography. The bespoke design will require careful carving of the site boundaries within the current setup to achieve this goal. The area to the west of the site is home to a forest of eucalyptus trees and native plants, adding to the natural beauty of the location.
